Who is eligible?
Any adult (18 years or older) without a high school
diploma who is a resident of Texas and not enrolled
in school is eligible to take the tests. If you
are not 18, the following applies:
A person who is 17-years-old is eligible if he
or she is not enrolled in school, has Official Withdrawl
forms, and a parent or legal guardian present to
sign a Parental Consent form. A person who is 16-years-old
is eligible if ordered by a municipal court settling
a truancy case.
What if I don’t pass?
If you don’t pass all the tests the first time,
you may take one or more of the tests again. In order
to be eligible for re-testing you must take a GED
Preparation Course or have a certified instructor
tutor you. The instructor must give written notice
stating that you are prepared to re-test. If you
choose to not take a preparation course, then you
must wait six months before you are eligible to re-test.
