Alpha Zeta Eta’s hard work has paid off as they remain a Texas Top Chapter.

North Lake’s chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society for two-year colleges was recognized at the group’s regional convention in March at Fort Worth as one of the top 15 of Texas’ 85. The organization currently is ranked fourth among the world’s more than 1,200 chapters.

The convention brought together more than 400 students, advisors, and alumni from all over the state to celebrate programs that succeeded in 2007 and plan for fresh efforts in 2008.

Several workshops were dedicated to discussion and analysis of the new biennial honor study topic: The Paradox of Affluence: Choices, Challenges, and Consequences.

Students scheduled to return to two-year colleges in August gained insights into how and why Phi Theta Kappa continues to encourage their involvement in worldchanging movements and personal growth.

The convention also held elections for district vice presidents and Texas regional president. North Lake’s Alpha Zeta Eta ran for regional president, but lost to sister chapter Alpha Alpha Xi of Richland College.

“The Texas region has spoken and made District 2 the champs again,” said outgoing Alpha Zeta Eta President Vicki Riley of North Lake. “We will support Richland in their success, just as we did in the previous year. Congratulations.”

Among several honors for the North Lake chapter was the regional coordinator award given to Dr. Yolanda Romero for her outstanding work as Alpha Zeta Eta’s advisor.

Alpha Zeta Eta will hold officer elections in May. Any prospective new members should contact Riley at vikkii@putershop.com.
