Auditions for Vocal Master Class

IRVING, Texas. May 11, 2000 - North Lake College, WRR 101.1 Classical Radio and the Lyric Stage are sponsoring a special voice class that is open to students and professionals. Internationally recognized soprano and voice coach Sylvia Rhys-Thomas will be conducting the North Lake May-mester class. Auditions are scheduled for Friday, May 19, at 7:00 PM in the North Lake Performance Hall.

Sylvia Rhys-Thomas, born in Wales, has sung with opera companies throughout Europe. Her stage career was cut short in her early 40's by bone cancer. After recovering in 1988, she dedicated her career to teaching, which has lead her from London to Milan, and Dallas to Tokyo. Among her more famous students is Sarah Brightman, one of the premier leading ladies of the musical theatre.

The class is designed for both the professional singer and student. For the professional, the class will help to refine the singer's artistry, language and style. Professional singers will have extended rehearsal time with Ms. Rhys-Thomas. For the student, the class will develop and build singing techniques to be carried throughout the young singer's life. The week's classes will begin on Monday, May 22, and end on May 29. A concert featuring Ms. Rhys-Thomas and class participants will be held at the Irving Arts Center on May 31. Interested parties may register now with North Lake College for the class, either as credit or non-credit. Call (972) 273-3584 or 273-3560 for more information.

North Lake College is a member of the Dallas County Community College District.
