North Lake College Student Wins Art Competition

IRVING, Texas. October 18, 2000 North Lake College student Donna Ball has been named first place winner in the Dallas Farmers Market calendar art competition. Ms. Ball's original computer graphics design will be featured as the art for the 2001 Farmers Market calendar. Both Ms. Ball and the North Lake Art Department will receive cash awards.

The winning design depicts scenes of Farmers Market in a colorful collage of translucent images photographed by Ms. Ball. Her work combines techniques of fine arts, photography, and computer graphics.

Since beginning her studies at North Lake in the Summer of 1999, Ms. Ball has won numerous honors for her artwork. She is working toward a Fine Arts degree and a career in teaching, but maintains, that she "will always be a student, continuously exploring, stretching and challenging herself in the use of different techniques and media."

Also honored was North Lake student Kay Oh, who placed second in the competition.

This is the second year for the competition, which is open to any art student in the Dallas County Community College District.
