IRVING, Texas. December 20, 2001-North Lake College will offer 50% discounted
tuition for its credit courses with a start time of 1:30 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.
Monday-Thursday for the spring semester, 2002. The semester starts January 14
and ends May 9, 2002. Registration for spring is underway now at the college.
Current students can register online and all students can pay online at
All students are eligible for the reduced tuition courses. The rates do not
apply for summer, online courses, continuing education (non-credit) or TV
courses. For Dallas County residents, the tuition reduction translates to $13
per credit hour rather than the standard $26; for out-of-county students the
reduced rate will be $23 per credit hour; and for students out-of-state/country
the rate will be $38 per credit hour with $100 minimum.
The reduced tuition is part of a pilot program conducted by Texas Higher
Education Coordinating Board and the Dallas County College District (DCCCD),
which is one of eight pilot programs in the state. It is planned to continue the
pilot program for Fall 2002 and Spring 2003 semesters. Once the Coordinating
Board receives and evaluates the results of the eight participating
institutions, the agency then will decide whether to continue the program.
Candace Castillo, Interim President of North Lake, says that the "program
will offer more opportunities to our students to advance their education and
careers at half the regular cost." North Lake has almost 9,000 credit students
per semester and 4,000 continuing education (non-credit) students.
North Lake College is a member of the Dallas County Community College
