North Lake College Professor Named "Efore Scholar"

IRVING, Texas. August, 2005 — Efore USA, the Dallas headquarters of Finnish Power-Electronics and Technology Company Efore PLC, announced a grant to the Dallas County Community College system (DCCC). The grant provides for a DCCC professor to join other community college educators in visiting Finland and Estonia to study their industrial and educational facilities in May 2006.

Jerry Mesquita, an instructor at North Lake College in their technology division, has been named the “Efore Scholar” for DCCC. Mr. Mesquita is Director of North Lake’s Cisco Systems Academy and has experience in telecommunications and designing cabling programs. Dr. Herlinda Glasscock, President of North Lake College, said that Mr. Mesquita “has an impressive background in telecommunications, as he was employed by Nortel before coming to North Lake and has worked for Radio Free Europe in Portugal.” On the trip, the delegation of community college educators will investigate models for improved workforce development and the use of wireless distance education for technical training.

Sharon Rose, Director of Irving Sister Cities, has been instrumental in helping the DCCC contact Finnish companies. “It was particularly rewarding that we could match up North Lake with Efore for an endeavor that is relevant to both business and education.” Call Ms. Rose at (972) 659-3304 for more information.
