Allstate Awards Training Grant to North Lake College

IRVING, Texas. November 23, 2005 — Allstate Insurance Company presented North Lake College with $10,000 to fund the Bilingual Business Office Support Specialist (BOSS) program on November 18, 2005. The program trains Hispanic women to work as bilingual office workers with computer skills and is given at the college's South Irving Center.

The North Lake College South Irving Center at 440 S. Nursery Road in Irving provides workforce development and job training for the community. In partnership with Irving Cares and the Irving/Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce, the college recruits Hispanic women from low to moderate income for the BOSS program. The eight-week training includes workshops on dressing for the office, resume writing, interviewing skills, customer service and telephone etiquette in addition to computer classes. The goal for the college is to train 100 qualified candidates for 2005-2006 to enter the job market.

Rene Castilla, Executive Dean of the South Irving Center, has seen the success of this program in the Irving community. "It is amazing and heart-warming to see these women succeed. They complete the program and obtain a good job that can provide a better lifestyle for themselves and their families."
