Construction Program Renews Accreditation

IRVING, Texas. 7 September, 2007 — The Construction Management Program at North Lake College was reaccredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE). This renewal of accreditation requires the program to meet stringent standards of the ACCE, and has proven to the ACCE Board, through a visiting team of its peers and industry practitioners, that the program is worthy of accreditation. The Construction Management Program was first accredited by the ACCE in 1992.  Mr. Mike Cooley is the Executive Dean responsible for the construction programs.

Construction management is part of many course offerings developed by a successful partnership with the college and the Construction Education Foundation (CEF) to provide industry-driven training for construction workers in North Texas. Construction and trades courses are offered at North Lake’s DFW Education Center (Center) located at 1401 Royal Lane West in the DFW Freeport. The Center is a renovated 60,000-sq. ft. facility that represents an investment of $1.5 million by the college and participating construction companies in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

Courses were developed to provide the technical knowledge and hands-on skills for students to find career opportunities in the residential, commercial, and industrial construction industry. In addition to training students new to the industry, the programs provide continuing education for the members of the construction industry to upgrade their skills.

The ACCE was established in 1974 to be a leading global advocate of quality construction education, and to promote, support and accredit quality construction education programs around the world. ACCE is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation as the accrediting agency for four-year baccalaureate degree programs in Construction, Construction Sciences, Construction Management and Construction Technology, and accrediting agency for two-year associate degree programs of a similar nature. The North Lake program was only the second two-year construction management program accredited by the ACCE in the U.S. and has maintained continual accreditation since that time.

North Lake College is a member of the Dallas County Community College District. Educational opportunities are offered by the Dallas County Community College District without regard to race, color, age, national origin, religion, sex or sexual orientation.
