IRVING — North Lake College and HMS
Inc. have partnered to provide training for 528 new or upgraded jobs
using a $408,637 job-training grant from the Texas Workforce
Commission’s Skills Development Fund.
The overall goal of the Skills
Development fund is to increase the skill level and wages of the Texas
workforce. The grant will be used to create or upgrade positions,
including computer operations support, database administrators,
executives and program analysts. Upon completion of training, workers
will earn an average hourly wage of $18.80.
“We are fortunate to have HMS as a partner
in this Skills Development initiative,” said North Lake President Dr.
Herlinda Glasscock. “We commend the State of Texas for implementing
this grant program designed to increase the skill level and potential
of the Texas workforce.” The Skills Development Fund (SDF) grant
between North Lake College and HMS Business Services, Inc. began on
August 18, of 2008 and will continue through August 17, 2009.
