North Lake College North Campus Gets New Director

IRVING – The fall semester is in full swing and the North Lake College North Campus has a new director. Arthur James brings ten years of community college experience to his new administrative role. He previously served as coordinator and faculty for North Lake’s Hospitality Management program, during which time he has become a certified hospitality educator (CHE) through the American Hotel and Lodging Association’s Educational Institute.

James earned a Bachelors of Science degree in hotel and restaurant management from University of North Texas in 1993. After holding various positions in the hospitality industry James returned to Skyline High School for five years to teach and manage the Hospitality Management program where he opened the school-to-work program between Skyline High School and the Hilton Anatole and Fairmont Hotels. He received his master’s degree in restaurant, hotel and institutional management at Texas Tech University and came to coordinate North Lake’s Hospitality Management program in 2000.

James recognizes how his experience and skills he has gained in the hospitality industry translate to his newest position. “From a customer service stand point, I understand what it is like to work with people, especially during busy times like registration, who might have challenging cases and want results immediately,” says James. “My experience working with people to provide quality service is a perfect fit with the educational environment.”

He continues to be involved in numerous professional organizations and community activities including local Chambers of Commerce, professional associations and youth related organizations.

James is looking to the future in his new administrative role. “I want to increase enrollment and continue to provide quality education to the students at the North Campus,” says James. “I also want to increase the awareness of the campus in the community by creating partnerships and exposing northern Dallas County businesses to continuing education and technical programs that may be beneficial to them.”

The North Lake College North Campus serves the far northern section of Dallas County, serving the evolving academic needs of the community. In addition to student support services, the campus provides freshman and sophomore academic transfer courses for students wishing to pursue a baccalaureate degree. Career programs, continuing education offerings and general education courses are designed to meet workforce demands and students needs. The 37,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility has thirteen “smart technology” classrooms, a multipurpose room equipped with presentation technology, three cutting-edge computer labs, a comprehensive Learning Resource Center and wireless access throughout the entire campus.
