Earth Day Fiesta Returns to North Lake

Free Event Expects to Draw Crowds

IRVING, Texas- In celebration of Earth Day, North Lake College South Campus will host its annual education fair, FIESTA, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2012. The South Campus is located at 1081 West Shady Grove Road.

Free and open to the public, FIESTA ¡Conozca Su Comunidad! (Getting to Know Your Community) offers live entertainment, community vendors, exciting give-aways, campus tours, and fun-filled activities for all ages. Attendees can even enjoy free food, including solar cooked hotdogs.
Helping North Lake incorporate Earth Day into its educational fair is Keep Irving Beautiful, a local non-profit organization dedicated to educating community members about litter abatement, recycling, and beautification.
“North Lake College has a deep commitment to protecting and enhancing our environment,” shares College Programs Director Wanda Whitten. “Including Earth Day activities as part of FIESTA is a great way to showcase this important initiative to our friends and neighbors in South Irving.”
FIESTA will also celebrate the city’s many community resources, including North Lake’s credit and non-credit educational opportunities. Representatives from each college department will inform the public about the many ways North Lake can help families achieve their goals.
Perhaps the biggest crowd pleaser is the afternoon’s wide variety of live entertainment, including 107.5 MEGA and radio personality Shoboy, singer Miguel Lopez, Grand Prairie High School’s mariachi band, the Mountain View College Latin Jazz Ensemble, Nimitz High School’s Baile Folklorico and the Halau Ho'olak Mana O Hawaii Dance Troupe. Approximately 50 local businesses, community organizations and churches will appear at FIESTA, including The Irving Fire Department with their fire engine.
“We have a number of raffle items to give away,” says Whitten, sharing a run down of the entertainment. “…[We] expect around 400 visitors to enjoy the day with us.”
