South Campus Education Fair A Family Event

College fair includes ribbon cutting ceremony
IRVING- Located on the northeast corner of West Shady Grove Road and MacArthur Boulevard, the North Lake College South Campus will host an Education Fair December 17, 2012 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The Irving Chamber of Commerce will lead a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the campus’ new walking trail at 5:00 p.m.
“This really is an event families can enjoy together,” says Event Coordinator Wanda Whitten. “And since the fair is during the dinner hour, we’re serving hot dishes, like tamales, to the community.” Highlighting the college’s many programs and services, the December Education Fair will offer fun raffles and adult scholarships as well as free food and entertainment. Karaoke, craft projects and a visit from Santa’s elves will keep children entertained as parents browse fair tables. The South Campus expects 150 families to attend.
From exploring the campus’s new Photography and ESL classes to meeting the Dean Arthur James himself, visitors will benefit from venturing outside online enrollment. The fair will also feature the college’s Upward Bound program, a free, year-round college preparatory program for high school students. One hundred percent funded by a federal grant, Upward Bound prepares low-income, first-generation college bound students for success in postsecondary education. Students attending target schools in Irving ISD must qualify in order to be selected.
