Spotlight Show at North Lake Gallery

Students create, curate and install new show
IRVING, Texas- A North Lake College (NLC) tradition, the Spotlight Show art exhibit is on display in the Central Campus Gallery through September 19. The show features pieces in a variety of mediums; each created, curated and installed by North Lake’s most advanced art students. This year's participants are Misty Adams, Umida Palmer, Maury De Pro and Joelma Regis. A reception for the artists will be held on Wednesday, September 11, from 7:30 - 9:00 p.m.
“Students are nominated by our art faculty to participate in The Spotlight Show seminar class,” explains Gallery Director Steven Benezue.  “In class they learn about gallery practices, design the show invitation, create a resume and write an artist statement. They are the show’s producers, directors and stars.”
North Lake’s Spotlight Show has been characterized as a catalyst for emerging talent. Case in point: NLC graduate Anita Maharjan.  A 2012 Spotlight Show exhibitor, Maharjan recently received The Irving Art Center 13th Annual Best of Show Award for her piece “May I Help You.”
