Star Coach Teaches Aspiring Players

Kid’s Basketball Camp Back By Popular Demand

IRVING, Texas- The Future Blazers Basketball Camp will return to North Lake College June 17-21, 2013. Open to boys and girls ages 8-14, this popular kid’s camp will meet daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

“Future Blazers Basketball Camp has a tradition of excellent basketball teaching,” explains Coach Tim McGraw. “Campers enjoy a variety of drills and games that prepare them to further develop their skills.”

North Lake College (NLC) men’s basketball has established itself as a strong training base for aspiring players. In fact, former NLC student Marquiz Baker was the leading scorer for Alcorn State University where he just finished his final season of Division I collegiate ball. The Southwestern Athletic Conference two time All-SWAC player is now pursuing professional basketball in the NBA and overseas. Brandon Brooks is also in his fourth year as a professional player —playing for the Tusla 66ers—while Bruce Wright and Carlos Montiel are both leading rebounders at their universities. Furthermore, Jamon Copeland was recently announced as the new men’s Basketball Coach at the University of Texas at Tyler—a position which drew over 100 candidates.

“I am very pleased with all of the guys who have moved on and represented North Lake College,” says McGraw who has seen 90 percent of his players continue their education at four-year colleges or universities. Marquiz Baker attributes his success on the court and in the classroom to Coach McGraw, saying:

Coach Tim McGraw is one of the biggest-kept coaching secrets in America. In one year     with Coach McGraw he made me into a 1st Team All-Conference and Division I ball     player, which was a dream of mine. Coach puts forth every ounce of his energy into     producing the junior college powerhouse here at North Lake. He expects your best not     only on the court, but also in the classroom.

Future Blazers Basketball Camp is $125 per child and will take place at the North Lake College’s Central Campus in Irving. To register call NLC Continuing Education at 972-273-3386.
