Important changes beginning January 2006...

The TREC will be changing the regulations regarding the number of courses required to obtain a Texas Real Estate License. In addition to the four courses listed below, one additional elective course will be required. After completion you will then be eligible for both the license and the certification!

Industry certifications give employers confidence that graduates have the skills needed to be successful in the workforce. North Lake College offers a certificate program in Real Estate that can be obtained by taking the four core courses required for licensure plus one additional real estate elective. Why not earn a certificate in Real Estate if you are studying to get your license?

Get a License!

The Texas Real Estate commission (TREC) governs the issuance of all Texas Real Estate license. Anyone wanting to meet the salesperson licensing requirements must take the following four courses:

  1. Principles of Real Estate I (RELE 1301)
  2. Principles of Real Estate II (RELE 2309)
  3. Law of Agency (RELE 2301)
  4. Law of Contracts (RELE 1311)

Broker’s License

TREC requires that you complete 900 classroom hours to satisfy requirements for the Real Estate Broker licensure. After completing your AAS degree in Real Estate, you may apply to TREC fro approval to sit for the licensing exam.

Recertification

Each individual granted a salesperson’s license by TREC must recertify each year for three years by taking a total of 90 additional hours of instruction (two courses).

On-the-Job Training

The North Lake College Real Estate Cooperative Program is designed for anyone currently working in any phase of real estate. Your office manager or supervisor will work with a North Lake instructor during the semester for you to receive credit for activities and skills developed on the job.

Counties, cities, and school districts need professionals to work with tax assessments and consumers. Lending institutions and commercial entities hire personnel to negotiate and process residential and commercial property-related transactions.

North Lake College’s Real Estate Program provides a practical approach to developing knowledge and techniques used by skilled professionals throughout the industry. Graduates of the program satisfy the educational requirements for licensing while earning college credit toward an Associate for Applied Science (AAS) degree. The Certificate program develops the basic skills for a real estate salesperson. The program offers course credit for on-the-job training and weekday, evening, and weekend fast-track courses for the busy professional.
