[Visual and Performing Arts Home] Internship FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) How can I get experience if I don't have the experience? This Catch-22 of the television biz has haunted everyone from Philo T. Farnsworth to Regis Philbin. We suggest you follow this advice:
Why North Lake College? North Lake College's Video Technology program is well known to Dallas/Ft. Worth television facilities. Our students, former students, and graduates work in local video operations, editing, remote production, engineering, and a host of other jobs. They hire and influence the hiring of many local video workers. Who would know better about NLC Video Technology? Do I have to take a class? Yes, every time we place an intern with a video professional in Dallas/Ft. Worth, we stick our neck out a little. This person is carrying a bit of NLC Video Technology's reputation with them. We want to know who we are recommending for a position with a company. So, we require at least 15 hours of coursework in NLC's Video Technology program before we will recommend a prospect for an internship. How do I get the internship? We recommend that those interested in interning, contact a job site at least a semester in advance to make internship arrangements. This prepares the way for the student to enroll and "put their name in the hat" for an internship the following semester. This smoothes the process and paperwork involved when the new semester begins and work gets underway for the intern. How much will it cost? This depends on where you live. Those prospective students residing in Dallas County, Texas will pay $26 for one credit hour of instruction. Please consult our DCCCD Tuition Rates page for specifics on other fees and services available to students. How do I get in? This depends on your current age and educational status. Prospective students who want to study Video Technology at North Lake College must first apply for college admission. You can download and/or print an admission application form from this web page. (Requires the free Adobe Acrobat Reader.) Please mail your completed form to:
What are the prerequisites? At least 15 hours of video production, editing, lighting, and audio production are required before faculty can recommend students for internships.
