Workforce Development Center

Workforce Development CenterLocated in the lower level of the library on the Central Campus, the North Lake College Workforce Development Center is a 10,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility.

The center opened in February 2009. Features include:

  • Six high-tech classrooms
  • Two computer labs
  • Multi-purpose conference room 

The center also houses offices and registration services for Continuing Education and provides dedicated space for workforce education and Continuing Education programs.

LEED Certified Building
NELSON, an international design and consulting firm, designed the Workforce Development Center to achieve LEED certification for energy use, lighting, water and material use as well as incorporating a variety of other sustainable strategies. LEED verifies environmental performance, occupant health and financial return.

LEED certification of the Workforce Development Center was based on a number of green design and construction features that positively impact the project itself and the broader community. Some features include:

  • Reducing water use by at least 45 percent.
  • 22.11 percent of total building materials content was manufactured using recycled materials.
  • 43.85 percent of the total building materials are comprised of products manufactured locally.
  • Developing and implementing a construction IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) management plan.
  • Providing lighting controls enabling at least 90 percent of occupants to make adjustments to suit individual task needs and preferences.
