What are the admissions policies for continuing education classes?
Generally, there are no admission requirements for enrolling in non-credit CE courses. However, there are age requirements and pre-requisite requirements for some courses.

Are there any prerequisites for the classes?
Some courses may have prerequisites, especially courses that are offered on a non-credit basis. Course descriptions include any prerequisite requirements.

Are there any age requirements for these classes?
All continuing education courses are open to individuals 18 and older unless the course is specifically designed for children, youth, or adults 55 or older and is advertised as such.

Can I take any of these classes online?
Yes. Many of the continuing education courses are offered online. Students are required to have Internet access and the latest version of a Web browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer). Some online courses may require additional components such as CDs and audio/streaming video.

Will I need any books or supplies?
Students will be notified if textbooks or other materials are needed in the course description or at the first class meeting. Students are responsible for the purchase or books and supplies, unless the course description indicates that materials are included in the course fee. Required textbooks are available in the Follett College Bookstore.

What do I need to do to earn a certificate in a class?
Certificates of completion are awarded for courses that meet the Workforce Education Course Manual (WECM) requirements. Students must achieve 70 percent participation in the class to qualify for the certificate. Specific participation requirements are outlined in the course syllabi.

What is a CEU?
CEUs – or Continuing Education Units – serve as a standard unit of measure to recognize an individual’s participation in non-credit activities (one CEU = 10 hours of participation).

Could there be any changes or cancellations to my class?
Changes of class dates, times, locations and instructors are made for a number of reasons after the CE schedule is published. The CE registration fee receipt will include accurate course information at the time of registration. However, changes may occur.

What about inclement weather?
In the event of severe weather conditions, local radio and TV stations will carry information on school closings. You can also call 972-237-3000 or visit the college Web site at www.northlakecollege.edu. Decisions for closing evening classes will be made by 4 p.m. on that day.
