THE NORTH LAKE COLLEGE FACULTY ASSOCIATION

Portrait of Ptolemy The North Lake College Faculty Association (NLCFA) is the NLC chapter of the Dallas Community College Faculty Association (DCCFA). The NLCFA represents faculty at North Lake College in discussions with the North Lake College administration. The Association is the faculty voice on issues relating to:

  • classroom instruction
  • faculty hiring
  • contractual disputes
  • evaluation
  • welfare and benefits
  • academic freedom
  • The NLCFA is governed by its Constitution and Bylaws, elects officers, and meets regularly to discuss issues and share information.

Membership dues are $75 a year (which includes membership in the DCCFA). Checks should be made payable to the NLCFA and may be given to any of the association officers. For more information, faculty may contact one of the officers of the NLCFA.

THE DALLAS COMMUNITY COLLEGE FACULTY ASSOCIATION

Membership dues in the NLCFA automatically entitles faculty to membership in the DCCFA. The seven college association presidents form the DCCFA Council, the governing body of the DCCFA. These council members elect officers for the DCCFA, meet regularly for business meetings, meet with the Chancellor and Vice Chancellors once a month, and with the full Chancellor's Cabinet once a month to represent faculty on matters of academic freedom, welfare and benefits, contractual issues, evaluation processes, and policies and procedures affecting faculty.

The DCCFA was organized in the late '70s for the purpose of:

    • Improving members' professional abilities
    • Securing better salaries and working conditions
    • Sponsoring seminars for members
    • Participating in faculty conversations
    • Bargaining collectively and processing grievances
    • Ensuring academic freedom
    • Keeping members informed of activities through regular meetings and newsletters
    • Providing legal counsel for eligible active members in matters of contractual disputes and academic freedom

The DCCFA holds its annual convention in November of each academic year to deliberate Constitution and By-laws changes, consider resolutions for future action, and hear the work of the standing committees.

The DCCFA also sponsors a Scholarship Fund which awards a scholarship annually to one student from each campus.
