Street signs installed on campus roadways
Signage will aid NLC police, students and city

At the end of the day, do you
remember where you parked your car? Was it off Roadway
D or Roadway E?
Most students are probably more concerned with finding
that perfect spot, or more importantly not being late
for class. Probably most students don't even know that
North Lake College has street signs on its property.
According to Sgt. Bruce C. Papke of the North Lake
College Police Department, the road signs were put up
during the semester break. The City of Irving also helped
NLC fulfill the city’s requirements in height
and visibility. They also helped with wordage, he said.
The signs were installed for safety reasons, Papke
said, and will also help emergency vehicles with accurate
locations.
For example, instead of saying, “I’m over
by the gym” (which causes confusion if the driver
is not familiar with the campus), you can now say, “
I’m off Roadway D, parking lot 18,” decreasing
the time it takes to get help.
The new signage will help the Irving Fire Department
update its city maps, which means they can dispatch
the needed crew more efficiently, said Papke.
The new signs will also provide another point of reference,
so that after a long day of academics, finding your
car will be the last thing you’ll have to worry
about.
