Blazers prepare for tournament
By Tim McGraw
Special to the News-Register
While the rest of North Lake’s students were enjoying
their winter break, the Blazer basketball guys were busy
preparing for their Metro Athletic Conference schedule.
We gave the players time off from Dec. 21 to Dec. 29 and
returned for grueling practices and a trip to Poplar Bluff,
Mo., to play in a tournament.
We lost the first game 66-64 to Logan College from Southern
Illinois and won the second game 94-76 against Elgin College
from the Chicago area.
Rose State from Oklahoma City was our next winter break
opponent. We played poorly and lost 75-64. Since then
we have won three straight games including our conference
opener against Mountain View.
We have started playing much better and show to have potential
to win our conference championship and go to the NJCAA
National Tournament in Delhi, N.Y.
When you can, come out and support the basketball Blazers.
Coach Cummings has his baseballers gearing up for their
season opener, Feb. 6-8 in a tournament in Phoenix, Ariz.
Their first home game will be against Northeastern Oklahoma
Feb. 22, at 1 p.m.
Early practices have been encouraging. The NLC squad appears
strong this season.
