Forty years ago, former North Lake art student Melvin Korelitz created a revolutionary work of science for NASA.

Space shuttle Columbia debris continues to be found across North Texas as NASA officials struggle to discover the cause of their first re-entry failure in 41 years of manned space flights.

Preliminary analysis indicates superheated air breached the outer skin of the ship, but how it did so is unclear, leading to a host of theories as to what could have happened 200,000 feet above the earth on the morning of Feb. 1 that led the Columbia, traveling at 18 times the speed of sound, to be torn apart, killing all seven astronauts onboard. DART backs out of student passes

Semester pass offered instead of discount pass, but not to North Lake students

College students who depend on Dallas Area Rapid Transit will notice something new this spring.
DART has replaced it’s student discount passes with a college semester pass which gives the student access to all DART buses and trains. Unfortunately this will not be available at North Lake.The original student discount passes available since December 1995 were for college students and students in vocational institutions, but because of low participation from colleges and schools, the pass was cancelled. None of the DCCCD campuses are going to participate in the college campus semester pass after February.More...


Annual chili cookoff scheduled for March 3

This year’s Chili Cookoff competition will be held March 3 at noon in front of the cafeteria, where brave chili makers will meet to present the best ever bowl of Texas Red.

Contestants will compete for unbelievable prizes that include tickets to the Las Colinas Symphony, overnight stays at Courtyard Marriott and Marriott Residence Inn, four tickets to “Disney on Ice,” and gift certificates to bd’s Mongolian barbecue.More...


Forensics team brings home 4 awards from TIFA in Houston German Students Photo

The North Lake College Forensics Team attended the Texas Intercollegiate Forensics Association Tournament in Houston Jan. 31-Feb. 2. The team competed against Rice University, University of Texas-Austin, Texas Tech University, Oklahoma University, West Texas A&M University and 15 other colleges and universities.

Amy Lamb brought home an award for first place in Novice Program of Oral Interpretation.More...
