Health Fair free
to all students
By Josiah Uhrlaub
Staff Writer
On March 4, North Lake will host its tenth annual Health
Drive. The theme for the fair is “Spring into
Spring with Good Health” which is something that
students could benefit from.
Campus nurse Virginia Jones, who is also the director
of Student Programs and Health Services, said, “Our
goal is to provide educational information on health
issues to our students.
Various community vendors will be available, said Jones.
A few of the vendors attending will be American Red
Cross, Carter Bloodcare, Planned Parenthood, Gilda’s
Club, and the AIDS Resource Center of Dallas.
Both the American Red Cross and Carter Bloodcare will
be on hand to accept blood donations. Right now there
is a push for more blood with the threat of terrorism
and the Iraq situation, said Colonel Michael Fitpatrick
of the American Red Cross. “We hope civilians
will rise to the cause of duty to help both their military
troops and other civilians who need blood,” he
said.
The AIDS Resource Center of Dallas will offer students
information on the disease and also give free screenings.
The main goal of the center is to promote awareness
of the disease and to further educate individuals on
how to prevent the spread.
The Health Fair will be held in the cafeteria foyer
from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The Blood Drive will correspond
with the morning time with an extra session from 4 p.m.
until 8 p.m.
This is a great opportunity to learn health information,
and with more than 24 vendors signed up, there will
be several things to observe, and it’s all free
to NLC students..
If any students want more information, call Jones at
the Health Center, 972-273-3171.
