SACS
report puts part-time faculty in jeopardy
Recent recommendations prompt North Lake to
trim, consolidate many adjunct positions
North Lake College has been forced
to make changes in order to maintain its accreditation.
As a result, by next fall your favorite faculty member
may no longer be teaching here.
Due to recommendations made by the Southern Association
of Colleges and Schools (SACS), the NLC administration
has had to adhere more stringently to guidelines that
have been set for faculty credentials, and may replace
some faculty members as a result. The administration
must also add full-time faculty in order to reach an
acceptable ratio of full-time to part-time contact hours.

NLC pilots reserved parking for seniors

Senior Parking MON-FRI 6AM-2PM.”
These signs are part of a pilot program that was initially
started to help senior citizens who use the pool regularly
for aerobic and stretch exercises. Some seniors complained
to the head of physical education regarding problems
with parking.

11 years later, NLC staffer Julissa Ranjel
and children cope with husband’s return to Iraq
In December 2002, Julissa Ranjel, who works at the
SPAR office at North Lake College, received a call that
no military wife likes to receive. On the other end
of the line was her husband, Steven Ranjel. He had just
received confirmation of his mission: he was going to
leave for Iraq.

Fourth annual screening
of student productions is slated for May 3-4
North Lake College’s Video Club will premiere
its most recent works at the fourth annual video showcase,
Saturday, May 3, through Sunday, May 4.
This year is unique because it is not a festival like
in previous years, but a showcase that will last two
days. The program will screen the students’ productions
produced through the fall and spring semesters.
