Student Profile: Dawn Lassiter
By Jim Price
Contributing Writer
What campus activities are you involved in?
“I am secretary of Phi Theta Kappa, mentor/liaison
to the Student Government Association, Coordinator of
the Student Leadership Institute and assistant to the
Advisor of the Single Parents Club.”
Among them, do you have a favorite?
“Actually, no. I love them all as a service to
the students.”
Favorites aside, is there one you regard as most important?
“No. I think the most important thing is unification
through diversity.”
How do these activities related to your educational
and professional plans?
“They all do. I’m a double major in criminal
justice and psychology. The interactions between me
and diverse cultural backgrounds broaden my knowledge
and experience of the wide range of personalities available.”
And what about awards? Have you received any here at
North Lake?
“Yes, I am a recipient of the Amidon/Beauchamp
Award — Student Leader of the Year for 2002 and
2003.”
You are married with five kids and two grandkids. How
do you find time to do all you do?
“Time management. My family always comes first,
is always my priority.”
How long do you expect to be a student here?
“I recently changed my degree plan graduation
date from 2004 to 2005 because the earlier date was
taking too much time from my family and because I want
to master my subjects before moving on to ensure my
success in the future.”
Can you imagine staying here as a career option?
“I hadn’t thought about it. That doesn’t
mean it’s not possible.”
If you could snap your fingers and change one thing
here, what would it be?
“That the slow progress made through club interactions
could be sped up — that everyone could get hungrier
for more of it.”
