Video Club premieres two-day film showcase
By Kristina Walton
Staff Writer
Fourth annual screening of student productions
is slated for May 3-4
North Lake College’s Video Club will premiere
its most recent works at the fourth annual video showcase,
Saturday, May 3, through Sunday, May 4.
This year is unique because it is not a festival like
in previous years, but a showcase that will last two
days. The program will screen the students’ productions
produced through the fall and spring semesters.
In the past, the all-day event included many special
guests; however, this year the club decided the showcase
should focus on presenting students’ works exclusively.
The presentations will vary from 30-second commercials
to ten-minute short films. Studio production projects,
digital video classes and field production classes will
also be shown.
Last year’s production team, Loose Cannons from
NLC, succeeded in bringing home the first-place trophy
in the student video college division in last year’s
24 Hour Video Race at the 15th annual Dallas Video Festival.
Recently the video technology students won numerous
awards in the television category at the Texas Intercollegiate
Press Association (TIPA) convention in Corpus Christi.
First place was given in the documentary category to
Sara Starks, Tracie Quintero, Chad Bacon and Jacques
Star for their work Crossroads.
Two second place awards were given to Cliff Ackerman
for a documentary called “9-11...” and for
the production of “Blame” by Cheryll Smith,
Jaymz Smith, Tom Post, and Adam Larke.
Three honorable mention awards were awarded for the
production of “The Human Race”to Sara Starks,
Tom Post and Chad Bacon. Honorable mention awards were
also given to Karen Shuey for her production of “Wesley-Rankin”
and to Joel Smith for his spot commercial entitled “Motion.”
NLC competed against 8 four-year universities while
no other DCCCD college entered in this category.
The Video Showcase will be held in the television studio,
P-250 at North Lake College. Admission is free. Food
and refreshments will be available during intermission.
