Syed Majid was attending college to help support family in Pakistan

North Lake lost a popular student over the holiday break. Syed Muhammad Majid, better known as Donnish to his friends and professors, died in the early morning of Dec. 20.

He seemed to be okay the day before, according to his roommate Faraz Hassan, even spending time with his friends. He mentioned that he was going to bed early because he had to get up early the next morning.

Born on March 3,1983, in Karachi, Pakistan, Donnish was the first person in his family to come to the USA. Although his major was undeclared, he came to North Lake to get his education so he could go back home and help his family. His mother and sister had been visiting earlier last year.

Professors and faculty members who knew him were saddened to hear the news. Sandy Lacer, English teacher and academic advisor, had taught Donnish for several semesters. She described him as " a quiet, unassuming soul. You could feel his presence; he would've made a change in the world."

Friends also expressed their feelings.
"He was like a younger brother to me," said his best friend Babar Tariq. "He will not be forgotten."
His roommate Faraz explained, "He was a man of principle, a responsible man."

Donnish was buried in the Muslim Cemetery of North Texas in Krum, Texas.
"I honestly believe God had a plan for him," Lacer said.
