Exchange students without homes for fall
Have you ever wanted to host an exchange student
but never had the opportunity? Well, now you can.
Host families are needed for three male students
who will be arriving Oct. 9 from a technical college
in Uelzen, Germany. A total of nine German students
are coming to Irving to participate in the cultural
exchange between North Lake and Uelzen, and six
of those students have been placed with families.
Patricia Corbett, who has been organizing the
exchange since 1988, said that anyone who plays
host to the German students would be eligible
to participate in the 2006 trip to Germany. “It
is a wonderful opportunity for you to share our
country’s history and culture, discover
differences and similarities in values and beliefs,
hopes and ambitions, and to contribute to global
understanding,” said Corbett.
The three young men who need host families are
Jan-Henrick Koehler, Benjamin Kohls and Roman
Trumpf. Expectations for host families include
providing a separate bed for the student, local
transportation and meals.
Applicants must be warm, open-minded and welcoming,
and happy to share their American culture and
lifestyle during the three-week stay.
“This is an opportunity to enrich the lives
of every member of your family,” said Corbett.
Applications and further information are available
in the President’s Office, room A-324, by
calling Corbett at 972-273-3010 or by e-mailing
her at pcorbett@dcccd.edu.

Benjamin Kohls will
have his 18th birthday while here (Oct.
25). He is a bicyclist and swimmer and is
interested in seeing skyscrapers and oil
derricks in Texas.
Roman Trumpf, 21, likes cars, music, and
online games, and sports events.
Jan-Henrik Koehler is 17 (18 in November)
and likes handball, basketball and computers,
and would like to stay with a student who
is interested in sports.
