The N-R's opinion on recent campus happenings
THUMBS
DOWN to the disappearing Student Life Center.
Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, apparently
in a galaxy far, far away (though we didn’t
know it at the time), there was talk in these
parts of a Student Life Center in the old library
(across from the cafeteria). The plans looked
nice. There was a game room, lots of leisure space
to spread out. A great little campus hang-out.
Yes, we understand that the craziness of the
waterproofing (not to mention reaccreditation)
has shaken things up. But could we get an update?
Is this still on the table? Are we ever going
to talk about it again? We’re just wondering.
Worriedly.
THUMBS
UP to a couple of great alumni.
Andrew Van Wey. Ring any bells? Maybe not, but
he wrote extensively for us here at the N-R in
the spring, mostly involving music (and specifically
jazz). Andrew, who is a Marine, has been recalled
to the Middle East. We know he’s not the
only one, but we here at the N-R are proud that
such a great guy is representing us. Godspeed,
Drew.
Speaking of great alumni, if you listen to the
new Sunny 97.1 for traffic, you’ll hear
a familiar voice. Recent graduate Jasmine Sadry
can be heard giving the a.m. and p.m. traffic
reports. Congrats Jazz!
THUMBS
DOWN to lack of a mascot for North Lake.
OK, really, this is getting embarrassing. Let’s
just decide already and get this rolling. It’s
been too long that we’ve had to answer the
visitor’s invariable question, “What’s
a Blazer?” with a shrug. What IS a Blazer?
The consensus seems to be a Mustang (Gee, it’s
so obvious). At any rate, we’ve reached
the point where we would support anything, including
the man on the moon, if it would get us a mascot.
Got a take? Tell us.
We may publish your take if it abides by our
letter policy (just 50 words please).
