Everything's new next baseball season:
the coach, the field and the scoreboard
Finally, after a year wait, the baseball diamond
is shining and waiting for action.
Construction began in June 2003 and finished
earlier this month. The field was officially turned
back over to the school Sept. 15.
Athletic Director Dan Joutras said the baseball
field was just an upgrade to go along with all
the other construction around the campus. The
tennis courts will probably be the next thing
to be upgraded, he said.
“Finding time for the baseball team to
practice was difficult because they needed to
practice between the soccer team’s schedule
and the YMCA’s schedule,” Joutras
said. “It was very difficult to maneuver
seventy full-time athletes, but we knew this going
into it.”
One main thing that came out of the upgrade would
have to be the new scoreboard located in right
field. North Lake College baseball has gone twenty
years without one. This made it tough for fans
to keep up with the score and stats of each game.
Joutras had this to say about Facilities Director
John Watson: “He and his team have the field
very well maintained, and it looks great out there.”
The new season will be underway in early spring.
