We're in this together

Your student government officers have hit the ground running since the installation of officers ceremony Sept. 27. We hold meetings every Thursday at 2 p.m. in room A-221. Everyone is invited.

Your officers are beginning a year-long campaign to get to know the student body, faculty, and staff. The officers want everyone to know that they are available on campus. You will soon see our visibility campaign become more tangible over the next couple of months with “Meet Your Student Officers” sessions in the cafeteria during peak times.

Soon you will see us wearing our polos on Thursdays, identifying us as student government officers.

We need a co-secretary/co-parliamentarian person to cover the positions of secretary and parliamentarian. We are also seeking student representatives from the student body, student clubs and organizations on campus. If you are interested in opportunities to help your campus community, please come to the meetings.

How many of you are beginning to feel the strain of this semester? At the time of the release of this News-Register, there will only be six weeks before finals week.

Although it appears that we may be alone, in truth, every student is here with similar goals. Everyone has a goal to obtain an associate’s degree, to transfer to a four-year institute or to further an education for a personal career. Yet, when I walk these halls daily, I see so many faces with an overwhelmed, exhausted look— the “I don’t think I can do this anymore” vacant stare. I assure you that I am right there along with every one of you with the very same thoughts.

But, I believe that we can do this. We can make it through the next six weeks. Together, I encourage you to seek out someone with dreams and goals similar to yours. Lean on one another. Study together. Encourage each other. Push each other toward the finish line.

Our campus is a community of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We each belong and share ownership in our unique community. We are able to contribute something invaluable to each other: the shared experiences of this present semester.
