Chancellor agrees radio prank at NLC was
inappropriate More than a month after
a campus incident involving a radio prank, steps
towards a resolution have been taken.
Richard Shertenlieb, producer for the nationally
syndicated radio show “Kidd Kraddick in
the Morning,” disrupted Dr. Linda Long’s
speech class on Sept. 8.
“I truly think an apology is in order,”
said North Lake College president Herlinda Glasscock.
On Oct. 8, she met with Brenda Adriance, regional
vice president, and Bill Alfano, director of marketing
from Clear Channel, which distributes “Kidd
Kraddick in the Morning.
Glasscock said the Clear Channel representatives
took the matter seriously. “They really
demonstrated that they know it was not an appropriate
thing to do,” she said.
She said that before deciding on the proper action
that should be taken, she wants to confer with
Long and her class to find what they think is
the correct way to handle the situation.
When Shertenlieb barged into Long’s class
that September morning, he spent 10 minutes disrupting
the class and harassing Long and her students.
Danny Morris, North Lake College police chief,
said that what Shertenlieb did could be prosecuted
as a Class C or B misdemeanor.
Glasscock said she does not want to pursue the
situation criminally at the moment. She said she
wants to resolve the situation in a way that benefits
the school and perhaps builds a relationship with
Clear Channel and their radio stations, and find
what she calls “the teachable moment”
in the incident.
She said that the incident has brought to light
problems with security on campus. She has directed
Morris to look into the situation and figure out
what needs to be done to make the school safer.
Dr. Jesus Carreon, Dallas County Community College
District chancellor, expressed his anger about
the incident.
“It was inappropriate to do in today’s
world,” he said.
