Mustang sculptor returns for exhibit at IAC

Internationally acclaimed artist, Robert Glen, creator of the Mustangs of Las Colinas, will exhibit his bronze collection of African wildlife beginning this Friday, Oct. 29, at the Irving Arts Center.

Sharing the spotlight with Glen is Susan Stolberger, a watercolor painter who has lived in Tanzania’s Ruaha National Park near Glen for the past nine ears.

“Robert Glen and Susan Stolberger: African Wildlife Sculpture and Paintings” will run through Nov. 14, and feature bronzes and paintings that were inspired by Africa’s wild inhabitants.

Ruaha National Park covers more than 6,200 miles and is the second largest park in the country. It is part of the Ruaha ecosystem and represents a unique transition zone where eastern and southern African species of fauna and flora overlap.

The exhibit celebrates the 20th anniversary of the installation of the Mustangs of Las Colinas in Williams Square. The larger-than-lifesize bronze horses are one of the largest equestrian sculptures in the world.

“I am looking forward to reuniting with the wonderful people of North Texas and sharing some of my latest and most compelling pieces to date,” said Glen.

“It hardly seems that it has been 20 years since I parted ways with the Mustangs. A part of me was left behind here after years of putting my heart and soul into their creation – it will be great to visit these old friends once again.”

The Irving Arts Center is located at 3333 N. MacArthur Blvd. For exhibit hours, call 972-252-7558, or visit www.irvingartscenter.com.

Admission is free.
