Duck Soup, News-Register
bring home 12 awards
The Texas Community College Journalism
Association (TCCJA) recently announced
its 2004 awards at a convention in Houston, and
North Lake College’s literary magazine,
Duck Soup, and its campus newspaper,
the News-Register, won 12 awards.
The winners were:

Duck Soup’s fall
deadline is Dec. 10. All students enrolled at
North Lake are eligible to enter their work in
the following categories: essay, poetry, illustration,
short story, photography and art. A submission
form, available in the Liberal Arts offi ce, must
accompany each entry. For more information, contact
one of the magazine’s faculty advisors,

in Gallery
The Staff Exhibition 2004 is
currently on display in the Gallery through Nov.
11. A dozen photographers have their work on exhibit—
Barry Snidow, Chuck Bryant, Michael Marion,
James Newberry, Tesa Morin, Dan Tossing, Johnny
Pulido, Kym Skiles, Elizabeth Mellott Carreon,
Maria Lara, Shabbir Degani and Scott
Hunt.
A reception will be held Oct. 27 from 7:30 p.m.
until 9 p.m. in the Gallery.
Phi Theta Kappa: Buy a
ribbon, get a donut!
On Wednesday, Oct. 27, Phi Theta Kappa
members will be giving away a Krispy Kreme donut
to every person who purchases an American Cancer
Society pink ribbon as part of Breast Cancer Awareness
Month.
Members will be set up in front of the wall calendar
in front of the campus bookstore during the hours
of 7 a.m. until the donuts run out.

from the Past
Leigh Poston correctly identified
last month’s Blast from the Past photo (the
adorable ballerina) as Amy Willingham
of Continuing Ed. Leigh will receive a free lunch
from Subway. Here’s another chance to guess
at a mystery person. Take a good look at the sailor
below. He’s only 18 years old. The year
is 1969, so he’s changed a lot. If you recognize
this full-time employee, call the News-Register
at 972-273-3498 and give us your answer. A winner’s
name will be pulled from all the correct entries.
Hint: He’s got facial hair now.
