Prankster makes up for fall radio stunt
Clear Channel, owner of the Kidd Kraddick in
the Morning radio show, will contribute to a North
Lake College endowment fund, and the producer
who interrupted a speech class last fall has formally
apologized.
On Sept. 8, Rich Shertenlieb, a producer for
the nationally syndicated radio show Kidd Kraddick
in the Morning, entered Dr. Linda Long’s
8 a.m. speech class. He proceeded to disrupt and
harass the class and Long before departing the
room.
For the past month, Dr. Herlinda Glasscock, North
Lake College’s president, and representatives
from Clear Channel had meetings to determine what
should be done to resolve the incident.
“He was beside himself,” said Glasscock
about Shertenlieb’s demeanor. “He
understands how inappropriate it was.”
Shertenlieb has sent written letters of apology
as well as a taped apology to Long and her students.
He also gave the students his personal e-mail
address so they could communicate with him directly.
Glasscock said that Clear Channel is going to
make further restitution by donating an unspecified
amount to the Linda Jean Long Endowment Fund,
a scholarship dedicated to the memory of Long’s
daughter, Karen Giggleman.
Long has allowed the News-Register to print the
following letter of apology she received from
Shertenlieb.
November 17, 2004
Dear Dr. Long and the students of Speech 1311-7002:
I would like to extend a sincere apology
for my involvement in an on-air radio prank that
involved your class. I apologize for any lost
class time that this prank may have caused and
distress that you might have experienced as a
result of this prank.
It was only several years ago that I was
a college student, spending every waking moment
trying to get decent grades, and I know how seriously
I took my academic career. The last thing you
needed was a guy like me interrupting your valuable
class time. It was an impulsive bit that was never
intended to upset or frighten anyone. If I could
do it all over again, I would definitely chose
to not do a bit of this nature.
Please accept my apology, for it is extremely
sincere. If you have any feelings, questions or
comments that you would like to share with me
personally, please feel free to email me anytime
at richshertenlieb@yahoo.com.
Sincerely,
Rich Shertenlieb
