LaME
An 11-year-old boy with a dream grew up to be
a member of a local band in Dallas.
Cameron Taylor, front man and lead singer for
LaME, is a North Lake College student. He has
been with the group since it began in 1999.
Over the years, the band has lost and gained
some members, but they never lost their drive
to create unique music. Cameron delivers a lyrical
depth behind the band’s sound, and is responsible
for writing all lyrics. Nine Inch Nails, Type
O Negative, and Rammstein have all influenced
LaME’s music.
Pushing their way full force into Dallas’s
local music district since 2002, LaME has begun
to make a name for itself.
Standing alongside Cameron is bassist John Weiss,
drummer Sam Waughtel, guitarists Taylor Walding,
and Paladio Garza. Casey Bohn plays the keyboard,
and Cameron says Bohn’s input sets the tone
for LaME. “It plays a vital part in our
sound,” he said.
When asked about LaME’s future plans, Cameron
said, “You have to be out there, you have
to give to get.”
Core Factor
A large part of entertainment off campus is found
in the Dallas music district, offering students
some of the best local performances and opportunities
in the nation. Styles and tastes vary among individuals,
but for the most part, everyone enjoys music.
Dallas local band Core Factor said most of the
people at its gigs are from school. So sharing
news in the parallel between music and life off
campus makes campus life more interesting.
Core Factor originally started playing together
in ?98, and said that location is a key to success.
Shortly after arriving, the group made a name
for itself , breaking through Dallas’ local
scene and performing with some bands that have
really made it big.
Like playing shows with Bowling for Soup, who
made it after signing with Jive records, one of
the largest producers in the country. Core Factor
has also played with Seven Mary Three, Element
80, Space Cadet, and many other well known alternative
rock bands.
Core Factor’s front man and lead singer,
Andrew Fisher, said, “Instead of awakening
from a wonderful dream, I now feel it rushing
through me.” Guitarist Marc Bedinghouse,
who also sings back-up vocals, was introduced
to music at a very early age, saying, “I
feel truly honored to be living out a childhood
dream.”
Brett Bedinghouse, drummer and older brother
to Marc, has opened up for bands like Pantera.
Jesse Bedwell completes the band, playing the
bass guitar saying, “Dallas is producing
rock stars, and putting the unreachable in arm’s
length.”
Visit Core Factor’s Web site for the members’
autobiographies, and to download songs from their
newly released album, Samsara, at www.corefactor.net.
The Web page also provides a listing of upcoming
shows and concerts. There’s also information
on sponsored events, local radio links and a large
number of links to surrounding rock bands.
