A sister with scissors can be a good thing

No one wants a bad haircut or color, but many have experienced this disappointment at one time or another.

But imagine your younger sibling with a pair of scissors and being at her mercy for a haircut. That combination alone could be catastrophic in some families.

That is not the case, though, for North Lake College student Carson Cox. “It has been to my advantage having a sister that is a great hairstylist,” he said.

His sister, local hair stylist Lauren Cox, provides a fashionable hairstyle for him, and she says that a California-style and beach babe look with plenty of highlights will be popular this spring.

“The latest cut designs for guys and girls are shaggy with distinct layers,“ said Lauren.

Blondes will be the color for the season, she said, but now college students go for a more dramatic look by using dark undertones.

Carson has been able to refer many students and friends to his sister. “When it comes to your hair,” said North Lake student Lindsey Slocum,“ you have to have someone who is knowledgeable and who stays on top of stylish trends.

Lauren creates Carson‘s surfer look with a tunneling razor technique used on his mid-length curls. This helps to keep the locks in place with fewer frizzes.

“A quick tip if you are on the go is to add shine,” she said. “It keeps your hair looking great and only takes seconds to apply. “You can find hair shine products at almost all local stores.”

Lauren works in a salon that is committed to continued education and advanced techniques in cuts and color. The salon closes one day a month so that the stylists can attend a workshop, learning the latest techniques from cosmetology schools in California and New York City.

Their staff has a profound product knowledge using only the finest line available. Price vary but on average you can receive a quality cut and color for about $100.
