Little yellow band worn for big cause

Have you seen them? In the past year, yellow “LiveStrong” wristbands have been spotted on the wrists of political leaders, athletes, actors and many folks at North Lake College. Everyone from Prince William to Matt Damon can be seen sporting the yellow bands from Texas.

Cancer survivor, champion cyclist, and famous Texan Lance Armstrong has achieved fund-raising success by selling yellow rubber wristbands stamped with the phrase “LiveStrong.” Through the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF), 31 million people have purchased a LiveStrong wristband. Counterfeit bands have also appeared on the market. Buyer beware!

Proceeds from the official one dollar wristbands benefit LAF and propel their campaign to celebrate and support the ten million people living with cancer.

This is not a celebrity-studded, passing attempt at charity. This is a major campaign with a grassroots spirit. Survivorship and education are central to the LAF mission. Armstrong’s Web site (www. livestrong.org) offers a huge array of resources and information for
survivors.

Another foundation Web site (www.wearyellow.org) has sold yellow wristbands in packs of 10, 100, or 1200 to people in more than 60 countries bringing $31 million dollars thus far.

The Lance Armstrong Foundation was founded in 1997 and is located in Austin, Texas
