If you’re not heading to Cancun,
Panama City Beach, or South Padre Island for Spring
Break 2005, you may as well get some action at
the movie theater. Check out these Spring Break
releases.
Be Cool (Warner Bros. Pictures)
Beloved and beleaguered character Chili Palmer
is back in a sequel to the comedy smash Get Shorty!
This time John Travolta plays a different kind
of hit man, joined by Uma Thurman, Danny DeVito
and Vince Vaughn.
Gunner Palace (Palm Pictures)
A non-fiction film that juxtaposes the daily life
of the 2/3 Field Artillery, a.k.a. “The
Gunners.” Forget politics, this film is
about the lives and humanity of soldiers who set
up barracks in the bombed-out pleasure palace
of Uday Hussein (nicknamed Gunner Palace.)
Hostage (Miramax) Based on the
best-selling thriller, Hostage stars Bruce Willis
in a true nailbiter. Three delinquent teenagers
follow a family home to steal their car and find
themselves trapped in a multi-million dollar compound
on the outskirts of town. Taking the family hostage
sets their story in motion.
The Jacket (Warner Independent)
This gothic thriller starring Adrien Brody and
Keira Knightley will make your pulse race. A Gulf
War veteran seemingly involved in a crime and
committed to a mental institution, Jack Starks
(Brody) is in a world of hurt trying to piece
time, reality, and his mind back together.
Millions (Fox Searchlight)
When a suitcase full of money falls from the sky
and lands at 7-year-old Damien’s feet, the
adventure of a lifetime begins. Director Danny
Boyle (28 Days Later, Trainspotting) and writer
Cottrell Boyce (24 Hour Party People) craft an
edgy yet wholesome-film-going experience.
The Ring 2 (Dreamworks
SKG) Naomi Watts reprises the role of investigative
reporter Rachel Keller, who realizes that the
vengeful Samara is back and more determined than
ever to continue her relentless cycle of terror
and death. In theatres March 18.
Robots (Twentieth Century
Fox) Clever animation yields Rodney Copperbottom,
voiced by Ewan McGregor. A young robot, Copperbottom,
meets Cappy (Halle Berry) a robot with whom he
is instantly smitten. Other characters voiced
by Greg Kinnear, Robin Williams and Amanda Bynes.
Steamboy (Triumph/Sony)
Katsuhiro Otomo uses more than 180,000 drawings
and 400 CG cuts to create Steamboy. A retro sci-fi
epic set in Victorian England, it features Ray
Steam, who receives a mysterious metal ball containing
a new form of energy .
