"Your support
meant a lot to the players"
Coach McGraw says:
Please allow me to thank the North Lake family
for their support of the Basketball Blazers this
season. Our crowd for the championship game was
the largest crowd we’ve had in the eight
years that I’ve coached at NLC.
I am very proud of the guys, as they tied for
the Metro Athletic Conference Championship for
the second year in a row. We finished with 19
wins, which is the second highest win total in
school history.
Kenneth Cage and Aaron Smith were named to the
First Team All-Conference, while Michael Smith
received Honorable Mention honors.
March is the time of year that college basketball
takes center stage in the sports scene. It is
a fun time to see former Blazers do well at four-year
universities.
Last Sunday, Jermaine Smith played on national
television as his Alabama State University Hornets
played for the Southwestern Athletic Conference
championship.
Ryan Pryor played on TV twice in one week, as
his Baylor Bears finished up their season in the
Big 12 Conference.
Brandon Bowie plays for Texas A&M-Commerce.
His team is ranked fifth in the nation in NCAA
Division II, and has a good chance of winning
a national championship.
Greg Baker was a starting guard for Adams State
University in Colorado. Shane King played for
Jackson State University in Mississippi, and Filip
Vyhnal played at Houston Baptist University.
My days are busy working to find opportunities
for all our sophomores who want to move on to
play, while at the same time recruiting new players
to come to North Lake to take their place.
The good news is that we have eight outstanding
freshmen who are returning, so our outlook for
next season is good.
Hopefully, we can move beyond being conference
champions and win a national championship.
The North Lake family deserves it.
— Tim McGraw is the head coach for
the Men’s Blazer Basketball team.
