Let's make it hard for the criminals

Police Beat:

Did you know that in relation to the other six DCCCD campuses, North Lake College has the lowest crime rate?

Despite the campus’ low numbers, however, burglary has been the statistics topper for the last three years.

Although it has been the most reported crime on campus, it has also been steadily declining since 2001, with only one reported incident of burglary in 2003.

So, let’s not send out invitations to burglars, OK? Keep your doors locked, windows up, and conceal your valuables in the trunk.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at other offenses that the NLC Police Department encountered this month.

March 3: Unattended child — A child 7-10 years of age was found in the cafeteria.

March 11: Criminal mischief — Destruction of property in the A-300 Foyer. A student damaged and broke the picture frame of DCCCD Board Trustee member Charletta Compton.

March 16: Theft — A laptop computer was stolen from North Lake College’s PC Help center.

March 17: Forgery — A counterfeit $20 bill was found in the accounting department that came from a student’s tuition payment.

Next month: See how the NLC PD is preparing to set up a free program on self defense for women.
