Dr. Francisco Carvajal, professor of physics at North Lake College for 12 years, died March 16 at Baylor Medical Center at Irving.

Carvajal was born Dec. 13, 1954 in the Dominican Republic.

He received his baccalaureate degree from Autonomous University of Santo Domingo. He won a prestigious scholarship to study in the U.S. and earned his master’s degree and doctorate at The University of Miami.

His family includes his wife, Damira (Mia) and daughters Carolina, Amanda and Laura.

Carvajal loved learning and was making plans to go to the University of Texas at Arlington in the fall to study for a second doctorate degree, this time in mathematics.

All who knew him described him as a gentle and caring man with an easy smile.

“North Lake has lost a beloved colleague and friend,” said NLC President Herlinda Glasscock.

A memorial service for Carvajal was held on campus on March 24 in the Performance Hall.
