dies

Dr. Francisco Carvajal, 54, succumbs to
cardiac arrest March 16
Dr. Francisco Carvajal, professor of physics
at North Lake College for 12 years, died March
16 at Baylor Medical Center at Irving.
Carvajal was born Dec. 13, 1954 in the Dominican
Republic.
He received his baccalaureate degree from Autonomous
University of Santo Domingo. He won a prestigious
scholarship to study in the U.S. and earned his
master’s degree and doctorate at The University
of Miami.
His family includes his wife, Damira (Mia) and
daughters Carolina, Amanda and Laura.
Carvajal loved learning and was making plans
to go to the University of Texas at Arlington
in the fall to study for a second doctorate degree,
this time in mathematics.
All who knew him described him as a gentle and
caring man with an easy smile.
“North Lake has lost a beloved colleague
and friend,” said NLC President Herlinda
Glasscock.
A memorial service for Carvajal was held on campus
on March 24 in the Performance Hall.
