Need a job? Career Service Center can lend you a hand

This summer isn’t all beaches and sand for a lot of North Lake College students. For many, it’s just the time to find a job and rake in a few extra bucks.

After speaking with several NLC students, many have already began job hunting while others are just waiting until after finals to start their search.

What most students don’t realize is that they can begin looking for jobs right here on campus. The Career Services Department offers beneficial services to students all summer long. NLC students can receive Career Counseling and Guidance free of charge.

The resource center offers a wide variety of services including computerized guidance systems, job search, resume preparation, on-campus recruitment and career seminars.

NLC student Brandon Baird said, “I have already applied at a few places, but none of them have any relation to my studies here at school. It would be awesome to find a job through Career Services that would help me improve my marketing skills.”

Baird, a sophomore, wants to major in marketing. He plans to transfer to a four-year university next year.

North Lake freshman Hana Worede said, “I definitely plan on working and taking classes through the summer.”

Worede is a biology major and also plans to transfer to a four-year college. She would like to start looking for an internship position after finals.

Kevin Amend said, “Yes, I will be taking summer classes, and I already work.” Summer is just a hotter time of the year for Amend, while his school and work routine stays the same. Amend is a freshman at North Lake, and has not yet decided on a major.

Francyenne Maynard, director, Career Services, said, “Right now is a great time for students to get placed into internship positions. We will be providing essential teaching tools to students looking for part or full-time employment.” Maynard added that students who want one-on-one counseling are encouraged to make an appointment, but it is not required.

The Career Services Center is open 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Fridays.

For inquiries, contact Maynard at 972-273-3144, or you can e-mail her at NLCCareers@dcccd.edu.com.
