Math Club becomes charter chapter
The North Lake College Math Club has become a charter chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, a national two-year college mathematics honor society.

The club’s current offi cers are Saurabh Bagaria, president; Aaron Thompson, vice-president; Ankita Bagaria, secretary, and Afsha Merchant, treasurer. Sponsors are Jerry Mayfield and Ellen Miller.

Other charter members are: Dipankumar B. Patel, Dawn Lassiter, Deep Kohli, Pruthvi Raj Karri, Naomi Vangui, Maharshi H. Patel, Martin W. Sittnick, Muthumeyyammai Elango, Archie Arnold Wilson, David Olmstead, Terry Taylor, Raul Sieberath, Jr., Tauseef Al Farooz, Tatiana Martiale Yacho, Manish Shrestha, Jobin Sebastian Kalathil, Ahmed Shahid, Nathanel Allan Dixon and Hana Worede.

The club will have its fi rst induction ceremony on April 29 at 2:30 p.m., in room A-206.


Video Festival slated for May 4
North Lake’s Video Club will host the Fifth Annual Video Festival next month, which showcases the work of video students.

“We screen a variety of productions, including news stories, documentaries, short films, commercials and animation,” said video instructor Andy Chiles.

The event will be held in the Performance Hall May 4. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call Chiles at 972-273-3571.

Chorale, singers to present concert May 1
The North Lake Chorale and the North Lake College Singers, under the direction of Allan Andrews, will combine to present the choral masterpiece “Requiem” by Gabriel Faure on Sunday afternoon, May 1, at 2 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church of Irving, 211 W. Third Street in downtown Irving.

The public is invited to attend. For more information, call Andrews at 972-273-3277.


What do you think of the Class Schedule?
Students can sign up in the SPAR office (A-223) to participate in a survey on the usefulness of the North Lake Class Schedule. The first fifty participants will receive a free meal from Subway.

The North Lake Marketing/Public Information Department is conducting the survey, which will be held on Tuesday, April 26 and Wednesday, April 27 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in K-216.


Stressbusters Week coming up
To help students relieve their stress before final exams, SPAR has planned a week of activities:

Monday, April 25: U.S. Army and Dallas Mavericks’ van and radio station 97.9, the Beat, will be on campus from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. near the soccer fields. Tuesday, April 26: Free sundaes from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Wednesday, April 27: Free massage from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Thursday, April 28: Sneak preview of Cinco de Mayo. Free drinks. Non-alcoholic margaritas and strawberry daquiris.

If you have something on your mind or would just like to spend some time with a member of the President’s Team, plan your visit around the following times in the hall outside the cafeteria: 10 a.m., April 27, Mary Ciminelli; 2:30 p.m., May 5, Paul Kelemen; and 10 a.m., May 11, Rene Castilla.

Amidon Beauchamp winner announced
International student Maria Irene Cunha has been named the 2005 Amidon Beauchamp student leader award.

Born in Portugal but raised in Brazil, Cunha has been in the U.S. since 1995. She is active in campus activities, including Student Leadership Institute, Phi Theta Kappa, SPAR volunteer, Science lab tutor, Health Center student assistant and Community Service volunteer.

Cunha has her bachelor’s degree in music from a university in Brazil, but plans to attend the University of North Texas after North Lake and concentrate on neurofeedback studies.

Congratulations to the Fitness and Bodybuilding Club for being awarded a governmental grant to receive Ken Cooper’s Master Certification in Personal Training ... The Health Center presented three students with awards in the Student Wellness Challenge that the center co-sponsored with Subway. ... El Centro/North Lake College Associate Degree in Nursing Program will present information sessions April 28 and May 26 from 2-4 p.m. in A-206. ... The Alaskan Field Studies course departs July 23, and openings are still available. Call Len Kubicek at 972-273-3508.
