Men’s locker room is target for thieves

Police Beat:

On May 3, the DCCCD Board of Trustees approved Chris Drake to be NLCPD’s new police chief. We can now congratulate and give him a warm North Lakestyle welcome, and look forward to his involvement on campus.

Congratulations are also in store for Officer Chris Lance who received the Officer of the Year Award in April. Congratulations Chris, keep up the good work!

NLC Road Rules
Is everyone familiar with the phrase, “no cop, no stop”? When we are in a hurry or late to class and there are not any other cars in sight, most of us tend to breeze through stop signs.

Rules are made to be obeyed, and that means by everyone (including the police).

The NLCPD will issue citations from the City of Irving rather than campus citations from now on to
people who are caught running stop signs on campus, said Officer Jack Guthrie.

Maybe, with the new chief on board, the crime rate will start to decline on campus, not just the volume of stop sign runners. In the meantime, here is a look at what’s been going on over the past few weeks:

Police Log
•May 3: Criminal mischief — damage to vehicle on lot 17.
•May 5: Criminal mischief — car accident on lot 10.
•May 10: Theft — box of chocolates stolen from private office A-200.
•May 13: Theft — $6 stolen from private office A-400.
•May 13: Theft — $1 stolen from private office A-400.
•May 19: Criminal mischief — locker damaged in the men’s locker room.
•June 1: Theft — Macintosh computer system stolen from a locked classroom in the K building.
•June 2: Burglary of vehicle — car was broken into on lot 5. The window was broken, the dashboard was damaged, and the radio was stolen.
•June 6: Burglary of building — a computer CPU was stolen from a locked classroom in the K building.
•June 6: Theft — wallet was stolen from the men’s locker room.

The police advise to be aware of your surroundings and to secure all personal belongings in the locker rooms. You never know who could be lurking between the lockers.
