Students with special education needs receive Level I certificate

The Bridge Program is an educational experience designed specifically for students with special education needs who have completed four years of high school and earned 24 credits.

The program, which began in fall 2004, is designed to help facilitate the transition from high school to the community and the world of work.

Under the direction of Carole Gray, director of Disability Services, the Bridge Program got its start in response to the community needs of Irving and Coppell school districts.

Much of the program’s success is given to the specially trained instructors who use a multi-sensory method of instruction to maximize the learning potential of each student.

Dr. Ida Baty instructs a social seminar class called “Vocational Life Skills,” where students learn skills that are applied to life and the world of work.

Dan Joutras instructs the “Motor Skills Development” class, where students work independently and in a group to increase fine motor and gross motor skills.

Last May, ten students received a Level I certificate of completion from the Bridge Program.

Level II of the Bridge Program is being offered this fall. Call 972-273-3167 for more information.
