All Good Things…
I’ve never been great a goodbyes. Well,
who really is? But the time has come for me to
say goodbye to North Lake College and the News-Register.
After two years of attending the school, a year
of which I was editor of the paper, I am leaving
NLC and its newspaper behind me.
Starting in the fall, I’ll be attending
the University of North Texas.
I will miss being editor of the News-Register.
It has been an incredible experience and I’ve
learned quite a bit since I took over for Josh
Bohling last September.
And I’m happy to say that I’m leaving
the paper in the capable hands of Amanda K. Witt,
the new editor, and Bethany S. Mueller, the new
associate editor.
I am certain that those two will keep the paper
up to the standard of excellence that I hope I’ve
been able to maintain throughout my time as editor.
There are many people I’d like to thank
for their help over the last year.
I’d like to thank all the staff and contributors
to the News-Register for all their great work.
There simply wouldn’t be a paper without
their articles, photos and other submissions.
I want to thank Josh Bohling for being a great
teacher when I was starting out and had no idea
what I was doing as editor.
I’d also like to thank Lisa “Lolly”
Arden for all her help and support over the year.
I’d also like to thank Betsy Simnacher,
NLC’s former journalism instructor who has
moved on to teach at Mountain View College. She
is a fantastic instructor from whom I learned
quite a bit about reporting.
I want to thank Kathleen Stockmier. She’s
always been here to help me and keep everything
organized and moving forward. I owe her a lot,
even if I don’t say it all that often.
Most of all, I’d like to thank the readers.
What fun is doing a newspaper when there isn’t
anyone reading it? Not only that, but they are
often the source of great feedback, ideas and
information for all of us on the News-Register
staff.
It’s been a fun ride, ladies and gentlemen.
Being editor is one of those one-of-a-kind experiences
that I’ll always look back on with a smile.
An exhausted, somewhat stressed out smile, but
a smile none the less.
But as they say, all good things must come to
an end.
