Mascot is center court

Blazers logo painted on gym floor; horse’s name to come later

The North Lake Blazers have the power of a flashy bronco behind them now.

Last week, Amarillo artist and sign painter Allen Ebenkamp rode in from the west and breathed life into a new gym floor by painting the Blazers’ logo in its center.

Ebenkamp has been in the sign business for 30 years, and his mural work is a familiar sight in his city’s landscape. His one-man shop supplies just about any kind of sign you’d want, and he has painted numerous mascots for schools.

“But North Lake is my first college,” he said. “That’s been kinda exciting for me.”

The name of the bronco will be determined by the student body this fall, said Student Government President Dawn Lassiter. Look for contest information at the Welcome Back party Sept. 8 in front of the bookstore and cafeteria.

Meanwhile, enjoy the school spirit that’s galloping through the halls.
