Don't forget about basic safety precautions, say North Lake Police

North Lake College police officers are committed to provide and ensure a safe and secure teaching and learning environment. The police department operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year.

Officers patrol both on foot and in police vehicles, as well as monitor the numerous emergency call boxes located throughout the campus.

With that said, our paramount concern is for your safety and security.

With all of the things you have to worry about while attending North Lake College, from grades to keeping up with student activities, don’t set yourself up for any added stressors by forgetting about basic safety precautions. The North Lake College police department wants to remind you to:

• Be aware of your surroundings at all times.

• Always secure your personal property. Do not leave valuables within plain view in your parked car.

• Never leave your vehicle unlocked or windows rolled down.

• If you see any suspicious activity, report it immediately to the North Lake College Police Department at ext. 3300 or use any emergency call box located on campus.

• If you are the victim of a crime, report it immediately. Call ext. 3300 on campus, dial 9-1-1 if off campus.

• Help us by watching out for others’ property.

• Never walk alone at night; you can request an escort from the North Lake College Police Department at ext. 3300 or use any emergency call box located on campus.

• Park your vehicle in well-lighted areas.

• Park your bike at a bike rack and secure it to the rack, preferably with a “U-Lock.” Don’t use poles or trees for that purpose.

• Check the back seat of your car or truck before getting inside.

• Don’t tamper with fire fighting equipment and smoke detectors. Your life and the lives of others may depend on it. Doing this is also a crime.

• Do not use the tennis courts or soccer and baseball fields after the exterior lights are out.

• Do not use the jogging trail after dark. The jogging trail closes at sundown.

• If you see anyone damaging college property, report immediately.

• SLOW DOWN on campus. The speed limit is 20 miles per hour through campus streets and 10 miles per hour through the parking lots.

All of us at the North Lake College Police Department wish for your time here to be safe and rewarding, but for that we need your help.

By keeping these simple safety precautions in mind, you will be helping to maintain the safe and secure teaching and learning environment that, working together, we know we can achieve.
