Texas Wesleyan art faculty exhibit at NLC
Three art faculty of Texas Wesleyan University have their art on display in the Gallery through Oct. 11.

Author, scholar, and professor, Dr. Stan Rummel, has curated Complementarity: Seeing with Another Eye, a provocative exhibition of works by Peter Colley, Terri Cummings and Kit Hall.

Based on the theory of complementarity proposed by physicist Niels Bohr, the exhibit includes works in sculpture, installation, painting, drawing, book arts and photography. A reception for the artists will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 28 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Music to be provided by the NLC Chamber Ensemble.

Jazzy harpist to present workshop at NLC
Recording artist Cindy Horstman will present a workshop on Saturday morning, Oct. 15 for harpists wishing to incorporate jazz styles into their repertoire on Saturday morning.

Horstman is classically trained and holds a Master of Music degree in Harp Performance from the University of Texas at Austin. She has received numerous accolades including the Sammons Center for the Arts “Jazz Artist of the 2004-2005 Year” and a first place prize at the prestigious Lyon Healy International Jazz Harp Competition.

Can you sing? Auditions being held
The North Lake College “Rhythm and Blues Band” is seeking singers to perform solos and background vocals at concerts on campus and in the community. Student musicians with experience performing popular and jazz styles interested in auditioning for the group should contact music director Dr. Francis Osentowski at 972-273-3576 or franciso@dcccd.edu.

Art student auctions work for Katrina Relief
A silent auction will take place Sept. 27 through Oct. 6 to benefit those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Student Kapit Dixit from Nepal will take bids on his paintings which are hanging in the J Hall. The WEOTA Art Club is sponsoring the auction.

The art work will be on view from Sept. 27 through Oct. 11. Then the bids will be accepted. Call Chris Fulmer at 972-273-3276 or Steve Benezue at 972-273-3574 for details.

Dallas Bach Society presents 24th season
The Dallas Bach Society begins its new season Oct. 9 at the Majestic Theater in downtown Dallas with Handel’s opera-ballet Terpsichore, featuring soprano Ava Pine and countertenor Stephen Rickards along with The New York Baroque Dance Company.

Hispanic Heritage Art Exhibition
Art objects from several areas of Latin America are on display in the Lower Gallery (wall to right of bookstore) through Oct. 13.

The exhibit includes digital photography from former student Fannie Brito, two clay works by Olivia Guardiola, and work on loan from the collections of Irene Cunha, Leslie Castillo, Elizabeth Garcia, Bob Nunn and Marty Ray.
